Hong Kong Food Fusion at 李好味 Lee Lo Mei – Secret Informant (2018) S2E1
SECRET INFORMANT SEASON TWO IS HERE! East meets west in a fantastic fusion of food in Hong Kong.
Two Canadian guys, Riley and Leo, somehow ended up in Hong Kong and find a dizzying variety of food. Fortunately, they have a local informant, Stanley, taking them to some very special eateries that represent authentic food that the locals love.
In this episode, Stanley takes them to Lee Lo Mei (Lee’s Fine Foods) – which, by the way, don’t say out loud to someone who speaks Cantonese! It’s a play on words that sounds like a profanity. Yep, the name of the restaurant, and all the dishes they serve, are wrapped in wit and wordplay.

ABOUT THE FOOD:
1) “Golden Shrimps”: shrimp served over cauliflower purée
2) “Lei Siu Lung Ha” (literally means “Bruce Lee Shrimp” – but it’s a pun since “Siu Lung Ha” means “Grilled Lobster”): a lobster dish served with deep-fried Chinese buns and Singaporean pepper sauce
3) “Happy Cow”: slow cooked beef cheeks served with mashed potato
The bottom line: Lee Lo Mei is an Asian fusion place which combines traditional Chinese and foreign ingredients in clever ways. Which is exactly what Hong Kong is – due to its history as a British colony, and now a part of China again, it’s a place where East meets West.
ABOUT THE PEOPLE:
Riley is the brother of famous tech-video Youtuber Barret Murdock. Riley himself also hosts tech news videos, but it’s on an obscure channel no person’s ever heard of.
Leo is our resident hat-wearer and film editor, straight outta Toronto.
When not enjoying good food, Stanley works as an investment manager in Hong Kong.

Lee Lo Mei (李好味) can be found at 8 Lyndhurst Terrace, Central, Hong Kong, very close to entertainment destinations like Lan Kwai Fong and SoHo, and a very short walk from Central MTR Station. Max Lee, who does the interview in this video, is the head chef.
